Let That Sh*t Go

Still mad at the driver who cut you off?

Let that sh*t go.

Still mad at your ex? Let that sh*t go.

Pissed with your parents for an unfair punishment? Let that sh*t go.

Upset cause you did a bad presentation? Let that sh*t go.

Whatever is in the past that hurt, that YOU are bringing into the present…

Let that sh*t go.

Why let the past continue to control your life?

I remember hearing a story from the controversial Dr. Richard Bandler.

I’ll ‘recreate’ it cause I’ll probably get it wrong, but the basis of the story is true:

A woman came to a therapist complaining about a problem she was having with her mom.

It seems that her mom was always berating her for everything she did and this berating hurt her badly.

She said to the Therapist, “I am always going back and forth with her.”

The Therapist asked, “Have you discussed your feeling with your mother?”

The woman replied, “I can’t. She’s died years ago.”

The therapist said, “Wait a minute. Are you saying you are having arguments with a dead person? A person who can no longer impact your life directly?

That’s crazy!

You need to let that sh*t go.”

Ok, I’ve badly taken liberties in retelling the story but the reality is there. What’s the point of holding onto bad stuff (or, for that matter, good stuff)? It’s all in the past.

The process of letting go is simpler than you think.

If it educates you fine.

If it makes you feel good, fine.

If it hurts you because you don’t like it or you liked it but you don’t have it… Let that sh*t go.

Meditation can help you get greater peace in your life.

While meditating try this simple trick from Dr. Bandler himself.

  • Bring the troubling scene into your mind.
  • Bring it super close up and fill it with bright, gaudy, exaggerated colour.
  • Now, play it back in your mind, at high speed, in reverse, with silly music.
  • Keep doing that until it makes you laugh.
  • Add some cartoony sound effects, if necessary.

How do you feel now?
